A Walrus Doing a Somersault

I've been swimming instead of running these days. I find it relaxing and isolating. My health club has a lap pool that is hidden away. Nine times out of ten, I am one of two folks there. I like that. The kiddos have a blast in the play room, so it works out well.

I don't know why it is so gosh darn hard for me to do a kick turn:P It was really the only thing I wanted for X-mas. The folks who can do a kick turn are the cool kids. When I have the pool to myself...I try. I swear to you...I feel like a walrus trying to do a somersault. Why can't I do this? I know I knew how to do it when I was a kiddo...I know it!

I come to the end of the pool, tuck my head under and get a nose full of water:P I come to the end of the pool, tuck my head under and come out facing the same way. I come to the end of the pool, tuck my head under and come out going sideways (that is a personal favorite, how does this happen). I swear to you...I could not be a bigger klutz when it comes to kick turns.

Walrus...somersault...it ain't pretty...

On a completely unrelated note...how do you know you are a blogging addict? When you wake up and your little Google tab says you have a page rank of 4. I have been jacked up all day about this! My Feedburner numbers are screwed up...I am never nominated for Blog awards...but my Google page rank is 4, so it's all good:) "Hello my name is Nap Warden...and I have a blogging addiction:P"

  1. You are so funny, thanks for making me laugh before heading to bed! If it makes you feel any better, I can't dive. I look like someone is throwing me in by the seat of my pants! My husband was on the diving team and told me he would teach me but I am still not letting him see what I look like when I try! You'll get it, I know you will! :)

  2. LOL! This was such a funny post!
It must be something about growing older. I find that now, if I don't consciously exhale when diving into the water.....water goes up my nose. That didn't happen as a kid!

  4. I don't even know what a Google page rank is. It is probably better that way. ;)

Do you close your eyes when you are doing your turns? That always messed me up. Once I got a good pair of goggles that didn't leak my turns improved immensely. :)

  7. You mean a "flip turn" right?

I swam on a team for 10 years. I was always one of the slowest on the team, but I sure look "cool" when swimming laps and flying by people at the edge with my flip turn!

  8. ROFL! I feel the same way about google rank :)

I can't do the kick turn either. I end up going sideways, with a nose full of chlorine water.

umm, i ignore my awards (only had 2) but they make me uncomfortable. sometimes you know people don't have the time to fill them out and I hate throwing that out to them. oh well

  11. I suck at all things swimming.

oh and the blog thing? I gave up long ago to figure all the stat things out.

I don't even know how to see google page rank? So I want to know?

oh and my feedburner says I have only 5 subscribers...and a reach of 7 or so..... I don't get it. I google reader says I have 120 subscribers???? I don't understand?

  12. I'm a new swimmer and I totally want to see what I look like swimming, because I feel like an ass, but husband says I look like I know what I'm doing - except for the whole, you know, turning thing - so I asked him to film me and he's totally afraid he'll get arrested or something. Whatever, just do it, I'll bail you out after I see the footage.

  13. it is a straight flip over - all tucked in - while blowing bubbles out your nose then turn over - a very fluid motion! Keep trying! Swimming is the best for a taut tummy!
