Re-review of Deceptively Delicious...

A few weeks ago, I reviewed Jessica Seinfeld's cookbook Deceptively Delicious. (No, I was not paid for the post, would love to be...but no) I have read much about this book on the blogosphere, and I have seen much about it on the news. Let me reiterate...I love this book. The recipes are not only easy to follow, but quite yummy. I'd say I use something from her book 3-4 times a week. Now, here is where I want to clarify...I don't not serve fresh veggies with the dishes. This book is not a way to replace veggies in yours or your child's diet. I don't know if I made that point clear in my first review. The deal here is that if I am going to serve mac-n-cheese, I'll choose the healthier one from this book over Kraft. I still serve broccoli on the side, when Miss Peach picks at the broc. and won't eat it, at least I know she got some cauliflower in the mac., or carrots in the pasta sauce, or spinach in the brownies (yes spinach...it's very good, I promise). All of these recipes are a healthier version of things that I would serve anyway. I am so happy to have this option. For the record...I highly recommend her version of rice crispy squares. I brought them to a playgroup and they were a huge hit with both kiddos and adults! They have no high fructose corn syrup (the devil) in them, they do have flax seed meal (so good for you, omega 3). Long story short, it's not replacing fresh veggies, it's just a healthier way to serve old favs. That definitely works for me!

  1. Amen to that plus some cauliflower! :)

I made pumpkin cookies yesterday, BUT I used whole wheat flour and added some ground flaxseed. :) I am always trying to add the omega 3 and up the nutrition. :)

  2. I think anything that can save the sanity of a mother to a toddler is well worth the time, money, and/or effort!!!

Thanks again for the great recommendation. :-)

  3. I made the spaghetti pie last week and it was FABULOUS!!! I didn't have any broccoli so I subbed spinach puree in the meatballs. They were great! I served it with a salad.

  6. Thanks for the recommendation. I am going to put this book on my Christmas list. My kids love veggies, I am the one who needs to have a little help choking them down. LOL.

  8. I've been hearing so much about this book. I put it on hold at my library...and even though I don't have kids yet...maybe i can start to instill better habits in myself before I have them. Great WFMW!

  9. I have the "other" book, but I love it as well. I might get this one too just for some different recipes. Not only is it great for toddlers but it also is great for husbands too!

  10. i agree with you. i have been "secretly" putting thigns like wheat germ into my kids' food for years but that doesn't mean that i don't make the plate into a pretty display of all the yummy food that is being served at the table, including bits of the salad, veggies, etc. everything in moderation, eh?:-)

  11. I was at a bistro a couple of days ago and a woman had apparently just picked up her copy of this book in the mail, as she was opening it to read over lunch. I have also seen it as a giveaway on someones Fall Y'all Bloggy giveaway, and almost asked her if I could glance at it. I restrained myself, albeit reluctantly! I will have to go check this out. We have already altered many recipes on our own to accommodate our strange requirements, but Ornery really would do without veggies if I didn't make them the main course sometimes!
    Thanks for the review!
