Camp Mommy Heads to the Shedd Aquarium!

Let's face it. Summer in Chicago is expensive. As a work at home mom, paying for summer day camp is a daunting thought. If my kids wanted to go to camp, I'd do all I could to make it happen. That being said...they don't have any interest in camps. SO...it's Camp Mommy for my team this summer.

Some strategically placed memberships are a great way to get the kids out and exploring without breaking the bank.
This week, we checked out the Shedd Aquarium...SUPER fun! Membership gets you entry to all exhibits as well as the aquatic shows, which we took FULL advantage of.
Benny had to bring his penguin Waddles. Now that the Lincoln Park Zoo has closed their penguin house, the Shedd is the only place in the city to see them.
The Stingray Touch exhibit is just about the coolest thing my kiddos have experienced. We knew nothing about stingrays, and they actually are very cool. Yes...I did touch one...and no I won't tell you what it feels like. You'll have to stop on by and see for yourself ;)
We spent the morning checking out the Jellies and all the other sea experiences the Shedd had to offer. I was particularly struck by the Beluga Whales. It honestly felt like they were as curious about us as we were about them.

This was our first trip of many to the Shedd Aquarium this summer. Go Camp Mommy!

*While I was invited to check out the Shedd Aquarium, I was not compensated for this post. All opinions and experiences are mine.

  1. go Camp Mommy! camp is uber expensive no doubt about it. the days when we were kids and just explored outside all day on our own are long gone. i will have to take the kiddos to the Shedd this summer, especially since LP Zoo has all that construction going on.

    1. Yes...our mom used to just send us outside all day. It's just not possible in the city. The zoo really has a ton of construction right now. Hope you get to the Shedd this summer!
