What's the best way to see Chicago?
On foot.
Let's go for a run. C'mon...I know it's only 25 degrees out, the key to the cold is layers. Just layer up and let's go...Welcome to my favorite view of the city. I see this every time I run...winter, spring, summer, fall. You can't beat this view;)
Cold yet? Cool...let's get down to Michigan Ave...
There it is...Corner of Michigan and Oak. Shopping, shopping, shopping.
Wait...whad'ya mean you're cold? Did you layer?
Little Man isn't cold. Buck up and keep running;) Let's head down Oak St.
Ummm...in the imaginary world, I can actually afford to shop here...and here...and here.
*sigh* Me likey the imaginary world:)
Say hello to what we locals like to call "The Viagra Triangle". Yep, I can't make this stuff up folks. The Whiskey, Gibson's, and Tavern on Rush. Let me sum it up for you...Young girls, and rich old guys. You do the math. It really is a sight to see. In my single days we would go just to check out the scene...
Once you get sick of watching the V.T. games, I highly recommend a plate of spaghetti at Carmine's (good Lord I haven't been there in SO long)...and don't forget to finish it off with a nightcap at PJ Clarke's...oh the nights I spent there...(seems like another lifetime now)
Seen enough? Me too...
Let's head back to the park...
Yes there's a big red barn right smack dab in the middle of the city. This would be The Little Man's favorite haunt. How could it not be with the John Deere tractor inside that he can sit in?
OK, I get it...you're cold. It was a good five mile run. Pat yourself on the back...you should be proud of yourself:) You can head inside.
I gotta go to The Zoo with The Little Man. Got a date with a penguin don'cha know;)

Love the first pic. I do miss that view...I lived in Lakeview two blocks off Lakeshore. What a fabulous city!
ReplyDeleteFive miles ... in the snow ... with a jogging stroller ... past Jimmy Choos you can't try on? Wow!
ReplyDeleteWow, extra points - it's got to be hard to manuever the jogging stroller around all those self-absorbed shoppers on the Gold Coast!
ReplyDeleteRealllly love this blogtrotter post, as a runner myself, Chicago is definitely one of my favorite destination runs! I love how you incorporated. I will most certainly check back in - keep running strong!
ReplyDeleteI miss the city and how easy it is to get around on foot.
ReplyDeletep.s. Jill from SV Moms called me yesterday, thanks for the tip! Now if I could just be interesting......
THANK YOU so much for taking me on a run this morning! Now I won't feel so bad when I eat Mexican for lunch :)
ReplyDeleteI did love your tour; what a beautiful city Chicago is. I still have never been, though it's a mere 5 hours away from me (in Ohio). Gonna have to fix that!
You did the city proud, girl! I'm not a runner, but I do love walking by the lake. My kids love sitting in the tractor as well. We'll have to meet there when the weather improves!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I have to come to Chicago! Especially for Michigan Ave!
ReplyDeleteoh wow! what a great post! I loved our virtual run!! Man, I have to come back and see Chicago properly some time. The small taste of it I had at BlogHer just wasn't enough.
ReplyDeleteBoy, I love running with you -- not to mention, seeing all my favorite places in Chicago...again -- aaaaand, I'm not EVEN tired :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite kind of run! One where I don't even have to get up out of my comfy chair!
ReplyDeleteGreat post!!
Oh I miss Chicago!! I don't have to exercise today now right? (Not that I had plans too really.)
ReplyDeleteI loved this and you're totally motivating me to go for my wimpy walk around my office complex today (it's a balmy 37 degrees out right now.)
ReplyDeleteIf I were to do the same job around my house, you would see llamas, coyotes, and lots of fields of nothing. Yet, we're 15 miles from downtown. Crazy how different Chicago is from my side of Pittsburgh!
ReplyDeleteGreat pics and that is definitely a great view.
ReplyDeleteGreat tour! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWhew. I'm out of breath, now...
ReplyDeleteFrom someone living in sunny Florida. Your city is gorgeous in the snow. thanks for the run.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the trip through the city! I love it b/c it just like having a conversation with you! Ya know that one conversation we had at Blissdom:)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I've got to go warm up after that tour!
I loved this post and going for a jog with you.
ReplyDeleteI've actually just started running (or should I say trotting) myself and a pictorial of my run would kind of pale in comparison what with me living in Florida suburbia. This really makes me miss town/city life.
I've never been to Chicago but I'd love to visit someday :) Great pictures...but COLD!
