Sinks?

There is one luxury I allowed myself when I was a single girl, that I could not give up when I married. The cleaning woman.

She comes once a week, changes the bed sheets, folds the laundry and generally cleans the house. Thank goodness, because most of the time, the house looks like a bomb went off:O

I think all children have an irrational fear of the vacuum cleaner. The other day, while Grace was vacuuming, The Little Man was hiding under the covers...

Little Man: "Mommy, hide with me."

Me: (crawling under the covers)

Little Man: "Mommy, sing to me."

Me: "Oh when the Saints, oh when the Saints, oh when the Saints go marching in..." (Little Man LOVES to sing this)

Little Man: "No Mommy, it's sinks...Oh when the sinks go marching in!"

Why did I not know this;)

  1. Awww. That is really cute. Sinks! I've been singing it wrong all these years.

My youngest actually fell asleep with the vaccuum cleaner on. Apparently the sound was soothing to her. Now she chases it around giggling. At last! Someone new to vaccuum. Just have to wait a few more years.

  4. LOL!!!! My son is also always 'correcting' me on my words.

Here are a couple of lines from his version of 'Return to Sender':
    "They had a quawwel
    A lover's speck."

  5. How cute is that! What is it with kids and vaccuum cleaners?

I wish we still had a cleaning lady. We gave it up shortly after Sophie was born. Not because of the expense but because the lady was stealing my jewelry. Nice, right?

  6. That's awesome. Marching sinks.

And I must have some really weird kids. Mine rejoiced in riding the vacuum. That made for some stellar workouts. Weirdly, I never lost weight.

  7. Very cute. Sinks. That changes the song a bit. hehe!

My kids are really goofy. They LOVE the stinking vacuum cleaner. Maybe because I always vacuumed while they were sleeping as babies and it is comforting. Or something. I don't know.

  9. Yes, sinks makes a lot more sense!

And my kids have NO fear of the vaccuum cleaner. Probably because they see and hear it on a daily basis since I have NO CLEANING LADY coming once a week! Really, I'm not at all bitter.

And to be honest, my 5 year old son LOVES to vaccuum the carpets. So, who needs a cleaning lady?

  10. LOL - I think "when the sinks go marching in" is a much more fitting song for the day the cleaning lady comes ;-)

  13. I enjoy the picture in my head version of his MUCH better!
My kids decided to help with the vacuuming lately with my Dirt Devil, but needed earplugs, raincoats and winter hats with flaps to protect them while they did it!

  14. I bought a new house when I got married, in a brand new subdivision, we were only the 3rd house completed. I spent my entire pregnancy vacuuming up dusty red Georgia clay. When daughter was tiny you could vacuum right under her swing and she wouldn't even flinch.

I love your son's lyric changes, I shared them with my mother and we had to try them out. I'm so glad we've finally got it right.

  18. cute and lucky you - I ended up firing all mine - I can never find one who REMAINS a GOOD cleaner for the duration. They always do really good at first then start to lay off.
