Run Report

First...can you believe I actually took a 36 hour break from my computer? I did...now I am twitching just trying to catch up! What happened in 36 hours? Well, I did my 16 mile run. It went pretty well. I averaged about a 9:45 pace, which was OK, considering it wasn't a race...just a training run. So, I'll take it:)
This is going to sound crazy but I am going to let you in on my secret for recovering from the long runs. I know a few of you are distance runners so use this. Now, it sounds miserable...but it works. I got home from my run, and I had about a 5 minute cold soak in the tub. Yes, a cold soak sounds awful, but in the long run it makes you feel so much better. It has to do with getting the lactic acid out of your muscles faster. Then I do about 20 min. of Resistance stretching. No soreness today...all I'm saying is, it works for me:)
Olympics Day 9 - Athletics
Did you see the women's marathon last night? AWESOME! Dita pulled ahead of the pack fairly early on and rocked it in! Way to go girl! How crazy was it when she ran into the stadium...the whole place went nuts...too cool. I am so OD'ing on Olympics...

  4. Great job on your run. You amaze me. I am a walker but could never run for any distance. I do a mean mile pushing a jogging stroller though.
I am enjoying the Olympics so much this year. I never really got into them before but this year I am glued to them every night. I missed the marathon but womens gymnastics and high diving last night. I was so bummed for the americans.

  9. oooohhhhhh yeaaaaahhhhhh...!! I watched the whole marathon- and yes, I CRIED, and then wrote a blog post about it;-) thanks for the ICE tip.... I've read that in Runner's World, but never had the nerve to do it. A hot tub of HOT shower feels so much better on my legs- but I KNOW that ice would be better. GREAT JOB on your 16 miler!

  10. We're OD'ing here, too. Nick (my 3yo) was immitating the marathon by running laps around the coffee table. Too bad we have hard wood floors...NOT good in socks. But he learned an important life lesson, did he not?

Way to go with the runs - I'm always in awe of folks who can do that...or should I say...just get off their butts and actually do!

  12. I KNOW! I can't turn 'em off. We're watching the triathalon now. And, instead of feeling inspired to exercise, I feel exhausted for them!

  13. 16 mile run - right on! Very impressive. I think my times are about 10 minutes a mile for 5 miles, and I'm NOT doing more than that!

  14. I did watch the marathon. As my husband and I were sitting there in front of the tv, I could not believe that we were watching someone just run for miles and miles.

Good for you on 16 miles!

  15. Watching the Olympics like crazy. Saw the marathon finish...what an inspiration at 38 yrs. old. My youngest loved watching the diving last night. She told me she wanted to try that in the pool. Yikes!

  16. Way to go on the 16-miler!!! The cold bath works for me, too! Actually, my husband started me on the cold baths after I complained about being sore on a long run. Cured the soreness AND the whining!!! I make him bring me coffee while I'm in the tub!!! Would love to know more about the stretching. I teach yoga and that works for me. Always interested in more stretching!

  20. I missed the women's marathon, how did that happen. I am loving the olympics as well and really sad there is close to NO cycling coverage. Shame on them.

I understand water polo is so much more popular! WTF?!?

  22. Good grief have I missed you for that day and a half! Plurk needs you once per day minimum. It's a law. Or something.

Way to go on the run, and for not being overly critical of yourself!

  23. Cold soak in the tub? You are so hard core :)
But if it works, I'd probably do it too!
