Run Report...& Winners!

Well, it was a tough run Saturday. We did 12 miles in a place called "The Hills". Guess what, it was hilly! I ran up hill, after hill, after hill. It was hot, and humid, which I hate. I was chased by two dogs, which I hate. I almost beat the girl with the target on her back, but I didn't. My coach did say he thought I was getting faster, which is good.
Here's the problem...I can feel it in my bones...I am not doing enough. I am doing a lot, but I just don't think it's enough. I need to run a 3 hour and 50 min. marathon in order to qualify for Boston. Anything over that, and it's no Boston Marathon for you, try again next year...thank you for playing.
I have a half marathon to run next Sunday (13.1 miles). I need to break 2 hours in this race. The course is flat, and the run starts at 6:30 in the morning. No hills, no heat. I need to run under 2 hours to build my confidence. I need to know I can run this fast. It breaks down to a 9 minute mile pace.
The thing about it is, you need to hit that start line knowing you can do it. If you don't know in your bones that you have this one, your mind will give your body permission to fail. You start making deals with yourself during the race (I'll slow down for one mile, then kick in on the next mile...). It never happens, once you start bargaining with yourself, the game is off.
I am running 4 days a week, and swimming 2 days a week. I need to add weights into the mix, twice a week. So, I am going to ask my coach what weights I need to do for running (I'll keep you posted on it). Right now, it's just not enough...but we'll see how I do next Sunday. That will tell me if I'm on the right track...(keep your fingers crossed)

  5. I found your blog, about a week ago, and i love reading about your running adventures.

I grew up swimming, and even did a year at college swimming long distance. so i know what it means to pace, and push really had for a long time!

Also, i ran a 1/2 marathon a few years ago. I did it in 2 hours and 6 minutes and i didn't have a CLUE to what i was doing...so you can totally make it under 2 hours!

I am all excited to see how you do...

  11. You WILL break two hours. You WILL qualify for Boston. I know it's corny, but if you visualize it over and over again--if you see yourself crossing the finish line and looking at the big timer clock reading the time YOU WANT, then your mind WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN. I totally believe this. Make your goal you mantra and keep seeing it over and over again. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!
