Nekkid!

Alright, let me start by saying...I'm wound a bit tight on this subject. I am not a naked person. I don't walk around without any clothes on...ever. Maybe, when I was single girl, I had the occasional naked day. But now, there are way too many people coming in and out of this house to walk around with no clothes on!

Flash forward to a three year old in the throws of potty training...and life is one big naked day party! Miss Peach wakes up in the morning and says "I want to be a nekkid girl!". Now, if she has no clothes on, she makes it to the potty 100% of the time. Yay Miss Peach! With clothes on...all bets are off. Which works out well if we are in the house. It's when we go out that is becoming a bit of a challenge...

Yesterday, we met some friends at the local park for some playtime. Miss Peach had her diaper on and a cute little sun dress. I am gabbing away when all of the sudden, dress off and away she went!

I wrestled the clothes back on her and she reluctantly wore them:( I am right on this one...right? Husband is a bit more relaxed on this topic. I just really think the clothes should stay on in public places. I have given up on the dress code in the house, but out of the house...clothes on. I am right...aren't I?

  1. Well you know it could pose a problem when she goes to school. I have a feeling the teacher may say something.

    heehee!

Yeah your right on this one. But it's a phase. They all like ot be nekkid at this age.

  3. I'm with you on this one. In public - clothes! It's probably just a phase. Maybe get her something special to wear, like a pretty dress that she can pick out. That might change things.

  4. Yeah, I think I'm with you on that one. I give my boys "nekkid time" for a little bit each day, but after that, they better keep their dang clothes on!

  5. Clothes in public are a good thing. Although these days I'm happy with at least a diaper (it's been hot). But Z prefers au natural and rips off the diaper if he doesn't have shorts/pants on. "Nekkid" must be the default comfort setting for these little ones!

  6. I'm about 50/50 on this one. My kids LOVE to be naked (the 2 and 3 year olds). I definitely allow it at home and in some social situations. Especially while potty training. Usually I allow a dress w/ no diaper underneath if we're in known company. But, w/ strangers it's definitely clothes on.

  7. If you are out in public the clothes need to be ON. There are a lot of pervs out there.

  8. My friend's son was the same way, he would use the potty 100% of the time if he wasn't wearing pants. He developed and grew and now he's potty trained - I think it's a good start. I do agree, clothes in public!

  9. I am so not a naked person either.. but I think children go through that stage.. right?

  10. I am gonna have to agree and say that it's probably just a phase. Although my 4-yr old still loves to run around "nekkid!" but only right before bath time, after he has stripped. He thinks it's hilarious...

  11. How funny . . . I was going to talk about this! At home my kids are allowed to go au natural as much as they want, though I am starting to firm up and encourage Cooper to wear his underwear (they really only choose to be naked for about 30 minutes in the evening - after dinner and before pajamas.) At the pool today a child only 20 days older than Cooper announced that he had to go to the bathroom . . . his Mom stripped him down and sent him into the bathroom. This is our small, neighborhood pool, but still . . . perverts abound, and allowing a 3-year-old to go off to the bathroom naked and alone seemed like a bit much to me.

Good luck with the potty training!

  12. Clothes on in public is a good thing. Unless they're really young (like Miss Peach) and swimming, then just a diaper is okay. As long as it's a diaper, and not underwear.

  13. Yeah I am with you. Clothes on when outside. Inside the house, can be relaxed. But it does help with the potty training. Hopefully you can graduate to big girl undies soon.

  14. Ack! Did my comment get eaten?

I mentioned that we try to do the same. Outside = clothes. Inside= sometimes optional (depending on weather, company, etc). I usually try and limit the nekkid time to after bath. But thankfully it was mostly a phase for my girl.

  16. Dude you're so right. You just really need to worry that some day she will become a stripper. That's all.

    *giggling*

  17. My kids aren't huge naked fans - except when we visit a set of friends who LOVE to be naked. When we're together, all bets are off. Chances are they'll be naked in a swimming pool within 10 minutes of seeing them.

  19. I agree. There are too many pervs out there who don't need an eyeful of your little girl.

  20. I would've been the Dad running frantically after my girl covering all the little boys eyes as I go. LOL!

  21. Oh yeah! Clothes on if you're outside. Inside all bets are off. For the kids, not for me!

  22. In public, clothes stay on....definitely! In the house, I'm a bit more relaxed. They can walk around in their diaper or undies.

  23. I think this is a girl thing. I've seen it over & over but only with girls. I think in public she should stay clothed.

  24. In my house, the rules are clothes on inside and out around anyone but VERY close family.

  25. First, yes I agree with everyone here... clothes are good for outside. Yes it is just a phase. Our kids all MUST wear clothes 100% of the time even in our house because girl(8) and boy(7) are at the age they don't need to see each other nekkid. THAT SAID... I am a firm believer that if you expose kids to the human body in a natural non-gross way early on, the curiosity (the naughty type) will not be as strong. Therefore I let my kids see me naked/topless all the time. It is no big deal for them at all. I am now realizing that I need to start covering up because my boy (7) said to me the other day, "gross." I'm hoping he was just referring to me nekkid in general, not specifically my love handles, stretch marks, etc.

  26. I'm with you. In the house, whatever. In public. No. We use the line "that would be embarrassing!" a lot around here. I think my kids were saying it by the time they were 18 months old!

  27. Except for the little ones (under2?) if a bathing suit covers it then it needs to be covered in public. Stick to your guns.

  28. LOL. Right you are! :0) I also found that potty training went better nekkid. But we didn't do it nekkid. We just did it with no underwear. And only for the first few days, until they got the hang of it.

Too funny that she likes to be nekkid though!!

  29. Yeah - I'd have to say clothes in public would be my rule. Around the house is one thing - but yeah, I'm a wee bit uptight on that one also.

  30. Nekkid girl, how sweet! Well, you know, it is just a phase. But as a mom, I would prefer my girl wear clothes in public too!

Girlie used to like to pull her dress up all the time to flash her undies... sometimes all the way up to show ... well, we're past that now, thank goodness.

She starts kindergarten in the fall and we DON'T want interesting show and tell stories ;)

  31. my girls love to be nakee, as they call it. I draw the line with public outtings, but let them enjoy their bodies nakee at home before they become all self conscious as teenagers!

  32. This made me laugh - my 3 year old is in the midst of training too...

Yeah, I would definitely encourage clothes in public!

    ReplyDelete
  33. yeah, i agree. all kids want to be naked. It must be something innate. let her streak at home! :)

  34. Nekkid time around the house in the summer is totally allowed her and truth be told I'll be sad when they are too old to run around in their all together. It's just such a perfect part of childhood.

    ReplyDelete
  35. wow, i'm all alone in this huh? I LOVE being nekkid!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. You are RIGHT! Now, could you please tell my nephew? It really sucks trying to take him anywhere when he's always nekkid.
