Showin' Your Spanx?

I'll start by saying "I love my Husband", but men don't get it when it comes to dressing! Over a month ago, he came home and told me that we had a black tie party to go to on June 6. OK, no problem. I have a sweet little Nicole Miller dress that has only been worn once hanging in the closet...can do.
Fast forward to Friday evening (June 6). We were supposed to be at the party at 6:00, of course, it was 6:30 and Husband wasn't even home yet:o No problem, I was dressed and ready to go shortly after, he made it home. What does he put on for this "black tie" party? He goes for the khaki pants and a navy blazer?!? I say "whoa there pally pal, I thought this was black tie?". He says "oh sweetie, you should know better than to listen to me!". Well, I certainly can't go to the party dressed to the nines, while Husband is sporting business casual. Now, we are running about an hour late, and I am back to the drawing board as far as what to wear...gah!
I pulled this one out of the fire by just going with some bangin' heals, a basic black pencil skirt, and a black shiny top. Still looked fierce, but more casual....Whew, dodged an embarrassment bullet on that one.
Which leads me to my next observation. I haven't been out much in the last couple years. I have had my head down, buried in Mommydom. When did ultra short dresses come back? I'm talking shorter than Allie Mcbeal stuff. I kid you not, I could actually see some of the women's undergarments! It seems to me, that if I can see your Spanx, your dress is too short! That's not attractive, I don't think you want to be flashing your body shapers, it's not like they're sexy? I was just floored by this! I don't know, maybe I'm just being a prude...Lil' help here, there is such a thing as too short, isn't there?

  1. Yup, way too short. Which reminds me... I need to order my spanx for an upcoming wedding. Thanks for the memo. Mine will not be showing.

Where are the pics of you guys all dressed up? ;)

  2. I don't care how good your legs look. If your underwear is showing, that's so just so not classy.

  3. I quite agree. Gross. And, the babydoll mid-thigh high dresses? At our age? That is just like screaming, "Here. Look at my gorgeous cellulite & strech marks." No thanks.

  4. Yes, there is . . . I have to say. What the hey . . . short shorts, long shorts, long skirts, short skirts . . . I just don't get it!

WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO BE WEARING?!?!

    I am so fashion challenged . . .

  6. I was in ninth grade in 1967, when miniskirts took the world by storm. Pantyhose hadn't really caught on yet, girls were required to wear skirts or dresses to school, and like every other girl in my high school, I wore a long-leg panty girdle to hold up my stockings. On average, my panty girdle was exactly as long as my skirt. I would try to keep myself covered, but in the end it was impossible. The boys, I've been told, found this very exciting. But it was still tacky and embarrassing. I wear Spanx, which is the modern day equivalent of the panty girdle and I assure you that I will never wear a skirt short enough to show off my Spanx. As the saying goes: Been there. Done that. It's not fun. At least not at my age.

  7. yeah... undergarments peeking out are a no-no. i mean, i don't want people to know I wear Spanx. I want them to think i just look fabulous.

  8. Apparently short is the new long... or so I'm told. I wouldn't know - I haven't worn a skirt to a party in so long that they're growing dust bunnies in the closet. I'm a pants girl myself.

At least all you saw were the ladies wearing spanx... and not their "whale tails" hanging out.

  9. I'm not a fan of super short dresses/skirts on anyone. They might as well have just skipped the dress entirely and just worn the spanx.

  10. Once your clothes have a size on them, intsead of an age (24 months or whatever) than there is such a thing as too short. Little girls who bed over and show their nappy are adorable. Grown women who bend over and show their thong? Not so much.

Note: I reserve the right to change my opinion should I ever lose a thousand pounds and feel the need to show my great ass wherever I go.

  13. We don't get a picture with that post?? I bet you both looked smashing!

Ummm...I don't know when things became so short. I have not witnessed this yet. But if your spanx are showing, something is WRONG. Not classy and not attractive!

  15. Honestly, most women cannot pull off the ultra-short skirt look. I may have had killer legs pre-birthing-3-children, but now? Not so much over the knee. I am fine with not being in sync with fashion. It's more important that I don't have people noticing my undergarments than noticing that my skirt may be a bit long.

I'm sure you looked WAY better than the shorty short skirt women.

  16. Wow. That sounds short. I haven't been out in a while so I was unaware of this trend. I really hope it doesn't stick around. Not flattering!

  17. Um yeah there is such thing as too short. Shame!!! I try to get my dresses at an appropriate length so I don't have a "moment"!!

  18. Amen Sista!!! I love my spanks but not enough to show them to the world.

  19. Who actually told these girls that a hairnet was all they really needed to go into public AND THEY BELIEVED IT???

  20. Yep, what gets me are the ones that are way too old to be wearing that.

  21. I've got a black mini-skirt in my closet that has the mini shorts sewn in. That way, if I have to wear something of that nature I don't worry about my ass hanging out and leave it to my sexy high-heeled BitchKicker boots to distract from any other droopage there might be.

  22. Hmmm, I didn't know about Spanx until I read your post. Learnt something new today :)

  23. Not good...I would never wear something so short! How can that be attractive? Maybe it's Gwenyth's fault, I saw her panties in a red carpet photo last month!

  24. First it's showing your bra straps, I still never got into that fashion. Now it's the spanz?! Eek.

Love my spanz, I'll keep them my little secret though.

  25. I'm out of the loop as well. Short is in?? Not too many can pull that off. It sounds like you looked awesome and classic. Always good.

  26. Our kids' school has a rule that hems must reach the fingertips when the arms are straight at your sides. I think it's a good rule for everyone. Nobody wants to see more than they should.

  27. I hear you on the mini dresses after recently going shopping for post-baby clothing. But could someone also explain the opposite thing going on right now...the "maxi dress?!" I mean, in my present state, I'm all about the mumu-like garment, but 1. I have trouble with the term "maxi" and 2. is Angelina Jolie really the only woman who can pull it off?

  28. I think all men think it is hot to see your underwear, if you wear spanx show them off

    1. I expected more back up from you ladies. I guess I'm out of line. I like short skirts and I don't worry if I show my panties.
