Never Build IKEA Furniture, With a Toddler!
Why I thought I could do this...I'll never know! I bought some patio furniture at IKEA. Let me just say, if you don't know, some assembly required is an understatement. Wood, boxes, nuts and bolts, and those stupid Allen wrenches were everywhere. I'm a very diligent follow the directions cat, so I usually do very well with the furniture assembly. Throw The Little Man as my copilot in the mix, and it's a whole new ballgame:o At one point, I was wrestling with a chair, I had my head down screwing the whole mess together...What does The Little Man do to help? Whacks me in the back of the head with his shaker, of course! Oh Little Man, you are cute, but you are no Bob the Builder...

I hear ya! I've had several projects from IKEA thrust upon me over the years, some with co-pilot and some without. Without co-pilot usually goes MUCH faster.
ReplyDeleteIkea "do it yourself assembly" make me crazy. Totally overwhelming. You are a brave soul. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteLMAO - I can see him wacking you now. What a vision. You're too cute.
ReplyDeleteThe mere thought of trying to build ANYTHING with a toddler around makes me want to grab a cocktail.
ReplyDeleteYou are one brave woman ...
LOL too funny. but I can't get over that adorable little honey you have there. tee hee....can I have a little squeeze?
ReplyDeleteI LOVE IKEA! I'm jealous just hearing the word! If I could everything in my house would be from Ikea!!! But totally agreed, putting the items together totally sucks..especially with little ones running around!
ReplyDeleteand *I* cant do it without my Toddler Tornado around...
ReplyDelete:)
M.
You were brave to attempt it with a toddler! And what a little cutie!
ReplyDeleteAh, but with a handyman that cute, who cares if the work doesn't get done, right?
ReplyDeleteUgh, I have no patience for putting together furniture - especially when you add a toddler into the mix!
ReplyDeleteI have NEVER had an easily assembled item from IKEA. It always looks simple but we all know its not.
ReplyDeleteHahaha! I can't believe he whacked you with it! I guess that does throw an extra obstacle in there doesn't it? So...what was the final outcome? ;)
ReplyDeleteOh I bet he could take out Bob the Builder.
ReplyDeleteNot even Bob the Builder could easily conquer an IKEA project with a toddler around.

ReplyDeletemy son ALWAYS has to "help" it is cute but so frustrating! where is the pic of the furniture?
ReplyDeleteWhat a little doll- even if he wrecks your DIY projects!
ReplyDeleteMy oh my is he cute!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBob the Builder, no, what you need is Handy Manny so his tools will do all the work for you! :)
ReplyDeleteLOL, but he was just helping.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah! I tried putting a dresser together with my boys once. Once. I will not attempt that again. Sheesh!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Isn;t is great when they walk off with a kep piece and you look EVERYwhere and turns out they stashed it in their toybox?
ReplyDeleteLove it!
WHAT A CUTIE you have there!

Let's expand that a bit more: build or shop at Ikea with toddler. :)
ReplyDeleteOh and I love the Chicago Ikea.
How funny, and what a cutie! I just put together a kitchen cart thingie with Baby in the mix the whole time. Guess who's kitchen cart is held together with lots of slobber?
ReplyDeleteI love IKEA. Especially when I can dump the assembly on my beloved. There are times though when I scream "I can do it myself!" I have been where you are. Patience is a virtue, my friend.
ReplyDeleteAh, IKEA. I think they are just out to torture the average man. Or woman, as the case may be.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind building IKEA furniture, but haven't tried it with toddlers around. That would probably put me over the edge.
ReplyDeleteHammer Little Man Hammer!! Well, he now has the bug. Soon you should encourage him to remodel your kitchen!
ReplyDeleteI have just gone through an Ikea crazed week. I have a love/hate affair with them. I love the look, but hate the quality and the "some assembly required, not exactly as illustrated, may take longer to assemble in some areas, objects may appear closer in mirror, call before you dig, never drink and assemble"
ReplyDeleteMaybe he's Handy Manny. Because his tools do all the work themselves.
ReplyDeleteI can not wait to get home and see what the hype is about IKEA!
ReplyDeleteLittle man looks like he would be a great help!
About ten years ago, I was trying to build a DIY telephone table from Target. A friend called during the episode and apparently I was so evil and bitchy that she made me promise never to DIY again. I am so impressed that you even attempted it, let alone with a toddler. Wow.
ReplyDelete"Directions? we don't need no stinkin' directions!" He's so cute.
ReplyDeleteThose assembly-required projects kick my ass.
Ha! He is just too cute!
ReplyDeleteIf I never build another piece of furniture again, I will live happily ever after!
ReplyDeleteIt seems I an the furniture builder in the house. Husband - "Power tool, what's that?"
I love IKEA. This is one of my favorite places to shop. What a great post.
