Yep, I'm a Fanilow!

There, I said it...I am a Fanilow! This weekend, Husband and I were channel surfing (cause the weather was horrific) and we came across a Barry Manilow concert. I proceeded to belt out all of the tunes, while Husband drank himself into a state where he could deal with the insanity. Oh, it makes me chuckle to torture him:) Soooo, now I am torturing you with my list of my thirteen favorite Barry Manilow tunes....
1) C'mon...you know Copacabana gets the top spot!
2) Mandy- I love to belt this song out and drive anyone in ear shot crazy:)
3) Daybreak-see above.
4) It's a Miracle-love it!
5) Weekend in New England-*sniff* I love this song...I am such a sap!
6) I Write the Songs-who doesn't know the words to this...you are singin' it...I know you are...
7) Can't Smile Without You-you're still singing...
8) Looks Like We Made It-Let's just hold hands and sing shall we?
9) This Ones' For You-Honestly, I am just going to start singing out load right now, just to drive Husband crazy...He's sitting right next to me reading the paper. Should I?
10) Could It Be Magic-Nope, I'm not gonna do it...
11) Somewhere In The Night-It's killin' me, but I'm not gonna start singing out loud!
12) Even Now-I am not singing...still not singing out loud!
13) Bandstand Boogie-We're goin' hoppin', we're goin' hoppin' today. Where things are poppin', the Philadelphia way. We're gonna drop in on all the music they play...on the Bandstand! Yep, Husband thinks I'm crazy:)

  1. Alright already! I confess, I confess!! I wish I wasn't a Fanilow but I am!

Hey, I've been meaning to ask you about the cool boots in your avatar. Do you own a pair?? SEXY!

  2. I am not a fan, but Copacabana has very strong associations for me. I just have to hear it and I am somewhere else, many years ago!

  3. Oh I used to absolutely LOVE him. I got his "Barry Manilow Live" record (that's right, RECORD) for my birthday way back in maybe 4th grade? I would play it (on my RECORD PLAYER) and look at the album cover and just dream about marrying him. Oh I adored him. And used to cry listening to his songs (but I will deny this).

Which brings me to my neverending question....is he gay? Married? Other? What is the story? I never really did a big search, but it is something that never seems to be mentioned.

  4. I'm relieved to say that I only knew four of those! I will admit to liking Copacabana though.

  5. And what's wrong with that?

Did you know Manilow's a Trekkie?

  7. Your husband has a lot in common with Murphy Brown. Although I am not a "Fanilow", I do enjoy some of his tunes such as:

    Bandstand Boogie
    Mandy
    Read 'Em and Weep

Did you know that David Cassidy recorded the original version of "I Write the Songs"?

  8. Nope, not me. And then I read his tour rider, and THAT did me in.

Lara Angelina, who often thirteens, is a HUGE Manilow fan. If you haven't visited her yet, keep an eye out for her.

  9. I love Manilow, too. He was the mush of my youth, and I think he's a great entertainer still.

  10. I'll have a double of whatever your husband is having...but don't go far, another will soon be coming.

  11. My mother took me to my first concert when I was 12. Yep, it was Barry Manilow. Who should I see there but my teacher? And she would give me Manilow-related news clippings, etc. all year long. Yes, nothing tells the whole class what a dork you are like your teacher giving you Barry Manilow fan news.

    ReplyDelete
  12. But I should add that even though the class thought I was a dork, I still liked some of his songs.

  13. My husband used to listen to BM (ha, BM) over and over as a kid. I never let him live it down.

  17. Oh, how funny!!! Just a couple TT's ago, I did the same thing!!! How hysterical -- and your poor hubby! Reminds me of a Manilow line as he begins to play a medley of his hits: "For some of you, this will really bring back some memories....for those who were dragged here, it will be total hell."
I always joked that fessing up to being a Manilow fan should be like one of those meetings where you raise your hand, stand up and give your testimony, but only use your first name. "Hi. I'm Lara. I'm a Barry Manilow Fan. I've been a Barry Manilow fan for 30 years...."
Great TT -- thanks for the laugh!
