Alright already! I confess, I confess!! I wish I wasn't a Fanilow but I am!
ReplyDeleteHey, I've been meaning to ask you about the cool boots in your avatar. Do you own a pair?? SEXY!
I am not a fan, but Copacabana has very strong associations for me. I just have to hear it and I am somewhere else, many years ago!
ReplyDeleteOh I used to absolutely LOVE him. I got his "Barry Manilow Live" record (that's right, RECORD) for my birthday way back in maybe 4th grade? I would play it (on my RECORD PLAYER) and look at the album cover and just dream about marrying him. Oh I adored him. And used to cry listening to his songs (but I will deny this).
ReplyDeleteWhich brings me to my neverending question....is he gay? Married? Other? What is the story? I never really did a big search, but it is something that never seems to be mentioned.
I'm relieved to say that I only knew four of those! I will admit to liking Copacabana though.
ReplyDeleteAnd what's wrong with that?
ReplyDeleteDid you know Manilow's a Trekkie?

I know about half these songs off the top of my head and the others I've forgotten. Happy TT.
ReplyDeleteYour husband has a lot in common with Murphy Brown. Although I am not a "Fanilow", I do enjoy some of his tunes such as:
ReplyDeleteBandstand Boogie
Mandy
Read 'Em and Weep
Did you know that David Cassidy recorded the original version of "I Write the Songs"?
Nope, not me. And then I read his tour rider, and THAT did me in.
ReplyDeleteLara Angelina, who often thirteens, is a HUGE Manilow fan. If you haven't visited her yet, keep an eye out for her.
I love Manilow, too. He was the mush of my youth, and I think he's a great entertainer still.
ReplyDeleteI'll have a double of whatever your husband is having...but don't go far, another will soon be coming.
ReplyDeleteMy mother took me to my first concert when I was 12. Yep, it was Barry Manilow. Who should I see there but my teacher? And she would give me Manilow-related news clippings, etc. all year long. Yes, nothing tells the whole class what a dork you are like your teacher giving you Barry Manilow fan news.
ReplyDeleteBut I should add that even though the class thought I was a dork, I still liked some of his songs.
ReplyDeleteI would have NEVER (EVER) GUESSED!
ReplyDeleteMy husband used to listen to BM (ha, BM) over and over as a kid. I never let him live it down.
ReplyDeleteI confess to thinking Barry's a badass, too. And, the references in Can't Hardly Wait? LOVE them.
ReplyDeleteYep, he is old school and I still love him. Mandy is one of my favorites. Happy TT my friend:)
ReplyDeleteI remember Mandy played at 'every' dance when it first came out. lol Happy T13!
ReplyDeleteOh, how funny!!! Just a couple TT's ago, I did the same thing!!! How hysterical -- and your poor hubby! Reminds me of a Manilow line as he begins to play a medley of his hits: "For some of you, this will really bring back some memories....for those who were dragged here, it will be total hell."
ReplyDeleteI always joked that fessing up to being a Manilow fan should be like one of those meetings where you raise your hand, stand up and give your testimony, but only use your first name. "Hi. I'm Lara. I'm a Barry Manilow Fan. I've been a Barry Manilow fan for 30 years...."
Great TT -- thanks for the laugh!
ps...I see Susan already told you about me!! I just read her comment! lol! And that pic of me is taken at a Barry Manilow concert!! You can see the Music and Passion banner in the background. I'm still laughing like crazy!!
ReplyDeleteit's scary that I can sing those songs too... Happy TT!
ReplyDeleteI know all the words to all of them this is my clean the house music. love it with no shame at all, well to you any way:)
ReplyDeleteI really like Barry a lot too! He is a very talented guy, no doubt!
ReplyDeleteHis music just makes you feel good, doesn't it?
xoxo
Linda
tee hee....this made me smile. the manilow.....has some good stuff. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not a Fanilow but I'll be damned. I know every one of those songs!
ReplyDeleteCrap, I didn't realize I knew so many of his songs. Must be because of AI. ;)
ReplyDeleteI am starting to agree with you. It is frightening, but true...shhh.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a Fanilow but I definitely like Copacabana. Brings back lots of weird college memories.....
ReplyDeleteThat brings to light yet another place you need to wear The Jeans to--a Barry concert. The flames would rock the house!
ReplyDeleteOK...I'll take rounds 2,3 and 4 now. Each a double and straight up.
ReplyDeleteI am so there with you! How can you not toe tap and sing along to these songs?
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid to admit that I know ALL of these songs. Not only that, but I could sing them all too. Eek that's scary. I am not a fan but my parents were - so I have heard all of the albums! He does have talent though, I have to give him credit.
ReplyDeleteOh good lord why did I read this post? Now I need whatever your husband was drinking... LOL
ReplyDeleteI am not a Fanilow, but husband is.
ReplyDeleteMy TT is up @ The Cafe love.
Autumn, you can have one of mine, the service is really slow around here. I order 3 more the last time help stopped by. They are doubles mind you :-)
ReplyDeleteBarry Manilow's first album was the first record album I ever bought I have his first... 8? 10? on vinyl still. Yeah, I recognize all those songs. Could probably even sing them all and only miss a few words. :)
ReplyDeleteYou've no idea how reassuring it is to see that so many others love him, too. My husband makes fun of me to no end, but I LOVE so many of his songs.
ReplyDeleteOh go ahead - torture your husband. It's why you have one anyway! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my, I know every one of them! I'd never heard the term Fanilow, that is so funny!!
ReplyDeleteNot only do I love the name "FANILLOW" but I LOVE his songs too. My sisters and I used to make up dances to each one.
ReplyDeleteThe guy is kind of cool. I get it.
ReplyDeleteYo bartender! How bout a nudder round here at the end of the bar. And get one for the nice Autumn lady.
ReplyDeleteYep...keep the doubles.
Happy T13!
ReplyDeleteOK ohcaptain...I think you have had a little too much Barry and shots. You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here;)
ReplyDeleteYou got me singing along to your TT!
ReplyDeleteOh, come on...juss one more...pleeeaaasssseee?
ReplyDeleteLooky here...I'm singing along to yas...just listen...
"Its nine oclock on a saturday
The regular crowd shuffles in
Theres an old man sitting next to me
Makin love to his tonic and gin"
See...I'm down with you hip Fanilows.
Hows bout I buy a rounds for ya-all?
Hehe
ohcaptain...do you really think you are going to fool us Fanilows with a drunken rendition of a Billy Joel song???
ReplyDeleteWe just had last call for alcohol...it's time for you to shove off;)
Yep, big Fanilow here - I grew up on Barry Manilow. :)
ReplyDeleteI like BM too, if I am in a certain mood! Great list :D
ReplyDeleteMandy and Weekend in New England...I am a cheesy sap too :)
