Changing My Life!
OMG!!! This book has changed my life! I liked the idea of this book, so I picked it up. I am not a chef, I am just stumbling through trying to feed my little family. Maybe you are lucky, maybe your kiddos eat veggies, maybe you eat enough veggies. I know I don't eat enough good stuff. Whenever I try to feed veggies to Miss Peach, she hands them to Daddy to eat...She's not havin' it. Which brings me to the concept of this book...sneaking fruit and veggie purees into foods that you and your kiddos already love. It really works! Yesterday I made the macaroni and cheese with cauliflower puree...insanely good, low fat, (I made it with wheat pasta) Miss Peach ate it all, and then some! I can not stress how yummy the dishes are! For dinner last night I made the tuna salad and cauliflower puree...again, huge hit! Preparing the puree is quick and easy (you need a Cuisinart) and the recipes are easy to follow. I just can't say enough about this...Check it out in the bookstore, if you like what you see, buy it! No, I am not being paid for this post...Although, Jessica Seinfeld (yes the author is married to Jerry Seinfeld) if you would like to pay me, I will gladly accept a check;)

i saw her on oprah today. i agree there is a lot of merit to this, and i've been sneaking stuff into my kiddos' food for a while...but what happens when it's time for them to really learn to eat veggies? do you give up the "just one bite" thing? i have the book on reserve at the library so i'm watiting to see...
ReplyDeleteI saw this book also:) I am definetly picking it up this weekend!!!
ReplyDeleteI also use a sweet potato/carrot puree in our mac-n-cheese and in our spaghetti sauce. Our LO isn't eating solids yet, but Mommy and Daddy need their veggies too. And it's good practice for me! I hadn't thought of a cauliflower puree, though. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletePhyllis...I don't think you have to completely cut out serving normal veggies...Just know that if they pass on it in one form, they are getting it in another!
ReplyDeleteGreat! Now where can I find a cheap Cuisinart? ;)
ReplyDelete-HH
Heidi...Ebay!
ReplyDeleteI have been reading about this book on blogs all over this week.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe all the controversy this book has stirred up (claims it copied "The Sneaky Chef" - same type of idea of sneaking in healthy food).
But since YOU endorsed it, I'll HAVE to get a copy! It's a great concept!!
I checked out the Sneaky Chef website...Totally the same concept, I can see where those folks would be upset. That being said, I think the Jessica Seinfeld has better recipes! I can't stress how yummy they are!
ReplyDeleteI've heard great things about this book! My son has no problem eating veggies--it's his Daddy who turns up his nose! I've added zucchini and carrot puree to marinara sauce before with success--I'll definitely check the book out for more recipes.
ReplyDeleteHey, I need to get this but for my husband.
ReplyDeleteI already sneak lots more veggies into pasta sauces than he knows about.
That works for me!!!

Kinda think I'm blessed as my girls generally will eat anything at 3yo and 4yo. But since that is bound to change, I'm keeping an eye out for this book! thx!
ReplyDeleteI keep hearing RAVE reviews about this book so I think I am adding it to my Amazon wish list right now!
ReplyDeleteMy youngest called raw carrots Cheetos on Monday. Sigh...
p.s. if they can dip it in Ranch dressing, my girls will eat just about any raw veggie (both my girls actually LOVE raw spinach leaves! crazy I know!)
ReplyDelete;)
I've been curious about this book, so I appreciate the endorsement by the Nap Warden... oh, yeah and Oprah :-P
ReplyDeleteNow, I REALLY have to go get it!!!
I have been using The Sneaky Chef book for about a month and love it. It's not just for kids either, both me and my husband enjoy the recipes as well!
ReplyDeleteJust an FYI, I just made the yellow cake with chocolate frosting...To die for, so good! Hidden ingredient (pumpkin puree).
ReplyDeleteI need this book....for my daughter and ME. LOL I am just not a big fan of veggies in general, but If I sneak them in...maybe I won't taste them as much. LOL
ReplyDeleteAye, your cheque is in the mail! And all three of my kids have distinctly different food preferences.
ReplyDeleteMakes it interesting ....
I'm Mister Mom at the moment as my wife is away for three weeks - but the house is running efficiently and all the kids are well fed!!!
Oh man...I'm so glad I stopped by and read this post! I've been hemming and hawing about this book...it's on my Amazon wishlist. But I didn't want to spend money on yet another book about trying to feed my kids if it wasn't worth it.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely gonna check it out! TFS!
I saw an article about this book, looks interesting. I could prolly use this advice in a coupla months.
ReplyDeleteGlad it's working for you!
This book sounds interesting and you definitely have my curiosity peaked. I have passed by it a few times in the store, since I really didn't think it would help, but if you can get a picky kid to eat healthy by puree-ing stuff, hey I'm all for that! Thanks for the advice!
ReplyDeleteI am definitely looking for this book during my weekly saturday morning book store visit....I absolutely can not get Max to eat hardly enough to stay alive...really starting to worry me. So, hopefully some helpful tips will be in the book for me.
ReplyDeleteOur house rule is that there is something new on the dinner table you have to taste it twice. It doesn't matter when you taste it but you have to have at least two bites of it.
ReplyDeleteI also believe that children learn their loves from their parents and the people around them. If we don't like something we tend not to cook and serve it.
As a mom of 6 and 1 husband who didn't like his veggies, I can honestly say the rule works. My kids love vegetables even the yucky ones like Lima beans and okra.
I have the Sneaky Chef and really like it. I made Spinach Brownies for a potluck and no one suspected. They were gobbled up!
