A Better Option

Are you like me? Are you trying to find better options for your family to eat? I know I am. I am sick and tired of looking at the ingredients and finding high fructose corn syrup! It is the devil! I swear it is everywhere...Here is my little healthy alternative to frozen pizza. Cause if your like me, you love frozen pizza. I just use a wheat pita (check the ingredients, I just discovered mine has high fructose corn syrup, not happy. Really, hfcs in a wheat pita? Really!), pizza sauce in a squeeze bottle, and low fat mozzarella. Put it all together, and heat in the oven at 350 for about 10 min. Trust me, it is easy and so much better for you than the frozen variety. Lots of fiber (fiber good). To top it off, the little ones can make their own. You can toss what ever you want on them (fresh tomato, pepperoni, pineapple...). It works for me...Do you have any healthier options to old standards? Share, I need help!

  1. Great idea! In our house we love turkey burgers- with lots of seasoning, spices, etc. instead of ground beef.

    I also make a very tasty chili with lots and lots of beans. Mmmm.

  2. We do this with ready-made pizza crusts that come in packages of three - it works really well for Abby, Hannah and I to each make our own pizzas and I share with Becca. The girls love making their own pizzas. I never though about using pitas though, great tip! :)

  3. Great idea! I hate finding out my favorite foods contain HFCS too! Just noticed that Ritz crackers have it--so switched to oyster crackers for soup. I miss the flaky buttery-ness, but my kiddos prefer the tiny oyster crackers--score one for Mom!

  4. I've been working on editing the hfcs out of my life for a few months now and it really really is everywhere. I mean, yogurt, bread (even Sara Lee!), Oreos, graham crackers, Special K. It's ridiculous. Luckily, all natural products are getting easier to fine. Pepperidge Farm rarely has hfcs though, so at least I can still have goldfish crackers. :)

  5. You can also use bbq sauce instead of tomato sauce...which is a neat change of pace...but we always use low fat or fat free cheese also...

  6. HFCS is everywhere! I've finally given up and started making my own pizza dough. I make a big batch and freeze it so I always have some ready.

  7. Those pizzas have me drooling regardless of the HFCS. I haven't really done much research on it. I too substitute ground beef with turkey. Much healthier and tastes exactly the same.

  8. Yum this looks great! At first I thought it was those bobli (sp?) crusts but pitas are much easier (and cheaper).

  10. Right now my Peanut is big into tuna casserole. I can't really complain. Tuna, veggies, cheese and made with whole wheat pasta. All the good things for her.

    Those pizzas look delicious, and nice and fast for lunch time. I'm thinking I should try it. Our grocery store here carries Naan bread, and I think that would probably be nice also.
