Crazy Person

I signed up for Netflix. It just made sense. I cancelled HBO and all the cable extras, (including getting rid of the box in the basement hooked to a TV no one had even turned on in over a year). I saved a solid $65 a month...SCORE!
With that, I've been binge watching The Walking Dead. Between you and I...it's great! My little Dell tablet, Netflix and I have become great friends. You'll also be uber impressed to know I figured out how to run the Netflix through the Nintendo Wii so that we can stream on our TV. I feel like I should get some sort of medal, or award for this.

Last night, I tortured husband with episode 11 and 12 from season 2. He only half watched while reading The New Yorker. Whatevs...I heart my zombies.

Cut to this morning, first thing:

Me: "How do you kill a zombie?"

Husband: "I know this one...give me a second...you cut off it's head!"

Me: "Sort of, be more specific..."

Husband: "You bash it's brain in!"

Me: "Yes!"

Later that morning, I am sitting at the breakfast table reading on Flipboard about 14 ghost towns in the United States...

Me: "What happened to these towns?"

Husband: "No one lives in rural America anymore. Everyone moved to the cities."

Me: "Well, rural America is where we're heading in the Zombie Apocalypse. Big cities=lots of people=lots of zombies."

Husband: (Looks up from his paper for a moment, then continues to read the paper.) "I married a crazy person."

Are you a Netflixer...what are you binge watching?

Polar Vortex

I feel like I have been marching around like this for the last 3 weeks. This is what the Polar Vortex looks like...and I'm kinda done with it.

Just sayin'

I want the Oxblood Jacket!

Have you been watching Sleepy Hollow? I. Am. Obsessed! I'm also SUPER sad because there are only two episodes left, and then it is the long wait til next season. Poor. Me. (Insert big sad face here)

I did a little stalking of the jacket Abbie Mills wears on the show. SO cool.
How much do I love this jacket...let me count the ways...
It is from All Saints. This store, is where the cool kids shop. Everything in this store is spectacular. The problem, it also comes at a spectacular price. The Oxblood Jacket retails at $700. It is currently half off, which is almost doable in my world.
How could I not wander on down to All Saints on Michigan Avenue and try this bad boy on?!? Sadly for me, the smallest they had was a size 8. Just too big for this tiny mommy (that's what my kiddos call me) Honestly, I think I would have bought it had it been in my size...Then, I would have started fighting supernatural beings, and holding back the apocalypse. Just sayin'

Drugstore Skincare!

One of my good friends from design school moved to the burbs. We promised we'd meet up once a month and have a girls night, but kids and obligations get in the way, and while we have a very healthy texting relationship...we NEVER see each other.

Then, along came Ron Burgundy! We vowed to meet halfway between us and see Anchorman 2! Don't even get me started on how bad this movie was. SO bad. It was still worth it to visit with my old friend, but whooo what a stinker that film was!

When I got home, I got this text:
"btw i meant to ask u wht u have been using on ur skin ur complexion looked mahvelous!"

To which I said:
"I'll shoot it to you in an email...all Walgreen's"

To which she said:
"walgreens?! ur skin looked plump, radiant, and even toned."

Well alright...I must be doing something right! Between you and I, since crossing 40, I have viewed skincare as a battle. A. Battle! I try to drink lots of water. I try to get plenty of sleep. That said, I just can not afford expensive skincare. Hold on...I have to go drink some water...OK, now that I'm hydrated...here is what's working for me...
My only mantra at my age is "you can't hydrate too much", especially in this Chicago winter.

1) Garnier Ultra-Lift Eye Cream- I like this product, it's very creamy, and when I say I am in a battle with my under eye area, I don't lie. I'm even trying to sleep on my back so I have less strain on my eye area. blech.

2) yes to cucumber soothing eye gel- I wear this in tandem with the eye lift cream. I find them together to work quite well. My under eye area feels firm and moisturized all day. Score!

3) Aveeno positively radiant intensive night cream- I'm sure I'm breaking a rule here, but this winter, I've been wearing this in the daytime. It is so creamy, I like how smooth this goes on, and I wear it under my spf cream.

4) Garnier Skin Renew BB Cream medium/deep- Yes, I got this in a BlogHer swag bag. It has an SPF of 20, which I love, because the only place I go without sunscreen is to sleep! When I first put this on, it seemed way. to. dark. Give it a chance though, it bends in very nicely and gives my skin an nice even base.

5) RoC Retinol Corrector MAX- I use this at night. It's another one that just goes on smooth and seems to work. All I ever hear is to use a good retinol treatment, so I'm keeping it;)

So, that's my secret...it's not much of a secret, but so far, it's working for me;)
