Tiny House

There's this tiny house I walk past almost every day...It is a tiny, mouse house, in the land of the giants.
This is the house next door...You can see the roof of the tiny house next to it. We are talking four times the size:OHere is the house directly behind the tiny house. Zoning prevents them from knocking the house down, so they literally sucked the guts out of the house, leaving nothing but the facade. Then they inject uber modern house inside. I'm not sure this picture does the size justice...I'm thinking this is 6,000-ish square feet. Crazy HUGE.Now then, speaking of uber modern...This is the house across the street. I BIG puffy heart this one. I'm telling you, if I ever have 3 million dollars burning a hole in my pocket...this is my house;)"Mommy, why are you taking pictures of the houses?" "Oh Little Man, Mommy just likes all of the houses...we'll be done soon:)"There are no words for how crazy I think this house is. In the 'hood, we call these the Garagemahol's, or McMansions. They span lot lines, and have no personality other than HUGE. It's like cookie cutter fat cat houses.I have LOVED this house since the first time I saw it. (It's down the street from the tiny house) Between you and me...it was on the market for 6 million. I don't think it sold. (Does anyone have the 20% down on 6 mil.?) Needless to say, I did not buy it;/So I walk past all of the McMansions, and see the tiny house. I always wonder what it's story is? How did you manage to stand your ground in the land of the giants? I know the day will come where the green fences will be put up, the tractors will come in, and the tiny house will be nothing but a memory...Until then, every day I walk past the tiny house...I root for it:)

  1. The sad thing is that the tiny house is probably bigger than mine!

  3. What's crazy is that it probably still costs $500K.

  4. Oh, at least $500K...

There are houses like that in Naperville, too. I love to drive or walk around the fashionable streets and compare the new and gargantuan to the older and tiny...

  6. Have the 20% down payment? I can't even do the math to figure out what 20% of $6 million would be!

  11. I love the tiny house. The one we live in now was originally 1000 square feet. We added on due to kiddos, but I really liked the smallness of it.

Loved this walk through your neighborhood. These are some seriously cool houses...mostly :)

  12. There's a house much like that in Pittsburgh's South Side. It's surrounded by businesses and retail, each building stacked right on top of the other. But as you go down the street, you can find the little house tucked quietly back in the midst of craziness. The best part is that whoever owns the house is a HUGE fan of holiday decorating. Like, HUGE. I root for that house, too.

  13. We're the little house in our neighborhood. It's not easy to watch those houses go up, but there is some humor in knowing most of them are under water. We're headed out on vacation and they are putting for sale signs in front of their houses.

  16. Houses like that tiny one make me want to know about the people who lived there in the past. From the outside, it looks like you could just walk up and move right in and make a cute little home. I'd love to know the history that was accumulated in those walls!

  17. I never get tired of walking around and looking at houses of every kind and size. I especially like to walk at night, when the lights are on inside, and you get just a glimpse of the lives and stories inside.

  20. Reminds me of that children's book about the little house in the city that kept standing through the years. I'm totally drawing a blank on the name of it.

  21. I think it's so funny that the zoning prevents people from tearing down the facade, but that seems to be the only zoning at all!

  23. I love houses as much as you do. I'll see a house that catches my eye & imagine what has transpired during it's lifetime. Births, deaths, drama, passion....
Now I live in suburbia though. *sigh* I drive past my own home on occasion :-/
    Thanks for sharing.
