I am so exhausted right now, I actually have a headache from sleep deprivation. Why not go to bed Warden? Good question...
I saw a movie last night (midnight show) that does to sleep, what Jaws did to swimming. Not only did it scare the BEJEEZES out of me...but I got NO sleep last night:(
The movie, Paranormal Activity. I'm linking to the trailer, it is too gosh darn scary to embed on my blog. I'm serious...Sissy and I watched the trailer and jumped about a mile in the air. I can't believe we summoned up the nerve to actually go see it:O (If you count Sissy sitting in the theater the entire time with her eyes closed as "seeing the movie".)
I'll tell you about the movie in a minute...first, I gotta tell you how it was made (that is what I really respect about it). One guy (Oren Peli) wrote and directed it. There are only four characters. After shooting for seven days (in his own house), he edited the piece on his home computer. Total cost $15,000. Finished product...the SCARIEST movie I have ever seen (hands down, no exaggeration). I wonder what this does to the big movie houses who spend millions of dollars on big names and CGI...hmmmmmm?
Even if I told you the entire movie, I wouldn't be ruining it for you...you really have to see it to believe it. In a nutshell, a young couple living together (Katie and Micah) start noticing a presence in the house. Micah buys a video camera and tapes the bedroom as they sleep...and it all goes awry from there.
I can't explain to you the feeling in my stomach as I watched. It's like a knot of impending doom. Every evening, the camera is turned on (You experience everything as the camera, I kept watching through my jacket sleeve thinking "don't point us that direction...please, don't point us that direction!) The movie becomes an exercise in getting through the night. First night...not so bad. Second night...whew, glad that's over...and it just. keeps. escalating.
At some point Micah makes the colossal mistake of bringing a Ouija board into the house (WTF were you thinking!) and let's just say that did not work for them. The audience is forced to face the thing that goes bump in the night, right along with the characters...and does it go bump in the night:O
I'm not proud. I'll admit to you that I slept with all the lights on in the house last night. I got home and woke Husband up to tell him how awesomely scary the show was. He said "come snuggle up to me, I'll keep the demons away". Which is exactly what Micah said to Katie! Way to not help Husband:P
Wish me luck sleeping tonight...yes, all the lights are on:P

Well done for staying through the entire movie, I would have left. I am afraid of the dark to begin with so I guess I will stay away..thanks for the heads up..seriously.
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing The Exorcist in the movies and making a girl friend spend the night after..The big screen always makes things "worse"
Hope you get some sleep..eventually.
boo..
That's OK. When hubby was working out of town, I got so scared by Ghost Whisperer (shhh don't tell anyone. I know that's dorky.), that I would check all my door locks 3 times, sleep with the lights on, and go into a panic attack at every little noise. At least your movie was actually scary!
ReplyDeleteI am NOT one for scary movies, but my daughter is. Thanks for the heads' up - I'll be sure to steer her clear of this one.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly sounds like a movie I will not be watching. I'm such a scaredy cat that I'm not even going to click on the trailer.
ReplyDeleteHope your sleep returns soon...
oh my gosh.
ReplyDeleteHoly CRAP!
I used to LOVE scary movies... I heard this interview once where a horror film maker said that people love scary movies because it reminded them of how great their lives were- so it became this sort of "high".
Well, apparently I finally realized how fantastic my life is because now I can't stand them. I get freaked out really, really easy.
HOWEVER i may see it because the filmmakers story- AWESOME!
ok, you have talked me into. I have to go see it now. I love scary movies!
ReplyDeletewhen I was little, (10-14ish) I loved reading scary books(Christopher Pike). but I would get too scared to sleep so i always had a back up to read for a few minutes. Like Sweet Valley High or Nancy Drew.
so funny how we like to get scared!
I looked up the trailer to this about a week ago after a few people rave about it. It looks... interesting. Reminds me of Blair Witch in a sense (probably just from the "documentary" style). I'm not a huge fan of scary movies anymore, but I'll probably see it once it comes out on DVD.
ReplyDeleteI do not do scary movies anymore. Never. I like my sleep, and I don't like my imagination.
ReplyDeleteI don't do scary at all...But, I am LMAO at you not doing it either and still going to the theater to see it. (left all the lights on bawhahahahaha) I am off to the trailer... if it scares me...YOU will being hearing a big bump tonight from me!! LOL
ReplyDeleteall the hairs are standing up on my arms.. you will see me tonight!
ReplyDeleteI am a totally chicken, but I love scary movies. Which is a conundrum, because if I watch the scary movies then I will have bad dreams and insomnia for YEARS. I still have nightmares about Pet Sematary and Blair Witch. But I love the rush of a good scare. I will probably see this and then hate myself for it.
ReplyDeletewouldn't be able to see it - scary movies like that FREAK me out!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI saw the preview on MamaPop, and OMG, no.effing.way. I would go see it. I was creeped out for months when I watched Sixth Sense and this looks WAY worse.
ReplyDeleteI am home alone far too many nights (well, with the kids, but are they going to save me in a paranormal nightmare? I think not!) to feasibly think seeing this movie is a good idea, but ever since I saw the trailer for it, it's all I can think about seeing! I just hope they bring it to a theater here.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, I don't think I'll be able to watch that...
ReplyDeleteummm yeah....I don't do scary very well either. nope....
ReplyDeleteand to the commenter about "ghost Whisper" well I just saw it for the first time this week, and it freaked me out! eeekkkkk....something about eyes and lips being sewn shut....it enough to FREAK a girl out!
oh me oh my...now that makes me NOT want to see it, tee hee. I did see the trailer and thought it looked freaky! Thanks for the heads up...for real, I'd probably be sleeping with all the lights on and three children in my bed too, tee hee.
ReplyDeleteJamie :)
I commented on this last night and now I dunno where my comment went. I might have clicked off to another website not realizing it didn't save...I tend to do that. I'm totally sympathizing with you, because I am such a chicken that even PG13 creep me out and I have to leave the room during scary scenes. :) Hope you get some sleep tonight! PS, I'm totally not watching the trailer or I'll be up with you.
ReplyDeleteOK, now I really really hope it comes to my area! Peter...btw...is a total pussy when it comes to scary movies. May have to watch it alone.
ReplyDeletelol. sounds great! i love watching scary movies!
ReplyDeleteI am freaked just reading this post! I can't handle scary movies anymore. I used to be able to watch them, and now, forget about it. I can't do it. My fear got so much worse since becoming a mom! Remember The Blair Witch Project? That movie was really low-budget and it scared the crap out of me, too! And The Grudge, that was scary. And The Ring. Eek! Can't talk about this anymore! ;)
ReplyDeleteYou have my interest piqued! But I am NOT about to look at it now. Too late in the day.
ReplyDeleteI really want to see this movie! I have been looking to see when it will be showing in my area and even signed the Demand It petition. This sounds right up my alley. I love horror films and am rarely scared. The two movies in this genre that did scare me were The 7th Sign and The Exorcist.
ReplyDeleteWow! This is why I don't watch scary movies.
ReplyDeleteThe last one I saw was The Ring. I was awake for four days. No more for me.
OK, I do NOT want to see that, then! The freakiest movie I've ever watched (so far...because I am NOT a scary movie person) is White Noise. paranormal stuff fascinates me to no end, but it FREAKS me out. And this link?

Scares the Hell out of me!!
I'm nervous just reading your description. I can't do scary movies. Too much for me.
