Haunted

Am I the only one this happens to? Back when I was single, rich, and shopped all the time (ages ago), I called it being "haunted" by a ______. You could be haunted by shoes, or jeans, or a dress...just about anything that you saw, but passed on. Then you think about it, and think about it, and think about it, until you finally go back and either buy it, or try it on and realize it wasn't as cute as you thought.
Well, I haven't been haunted in a long time. Possibly in the spirit of Halloween, I really don't know, I am being haunted by a dress. The weird thing about this dress is...I have never seen it anywhere. I can't remember the last time I actually went shopping...
Now, you must remember, with me, I got my first degree in fashion design. That is how I ended up in The Big City. Usually, I know exactly what I want before I go shopping.
Back to my haunting...I have no reason to buy a new dress. I have nowhere to go. Quite frankly, I have no idea where I would go to find this dress that I keep wearing in my dreams (yes, the past couple nights I have been wearing the dress in my dreams).
So, in the spirit of illustration and art projects, which I have been doing a lot of lately...Here is the dress that is haunting me...It has a little retro kind of vibe (which might make sense if I have been watching Mad Men, which I don't'). The key to this little dress is in the fabric and the fit. I want it in a black textured brocade fabric (which usually adds bulk to an outfit). I want this dress to be fitted to a "T". I think it would look super sweet if it zipped up the back and just fitted perfectly. I don't know why folks...but I want it. I want it, I want it, I want it...Maybe by putting it here, it will leave me alone?
Have you ever been "haunted" by an outfit???

  1. AAhhh...the classic one that got away....

I'm more haunted by stuff I decide I should *donate* and then a year later wonder, 'where did that sweater go?' and realize dabnabbit, it's long gone.

    Sigh.

    (Love the Halloween theme btw!)

  2. I was going to say the same thing.

I know of a seamstress in Chicago that is fab. She used to have a boutique on Oak street and makes wedding dresses now out of her home.

And THAT dress, the one you drew, will haunt me too. I would buy it in a second. And try to find a place to wear it. ;) Nice job.

  5. Stop making me want stuff :-) I'd snatch that dress up in a heartbeat.

And oh yes. There was a pair of greyish blue pants at Old Navy that I didn't buy, it kills me. There's a pair of mid calf boots in brown i didn't buy and ... yes. suffice it to say, I have been haunted by the shoulda-coulda-wish-i-hads

  6. not haunted by clothes exactly.

gadgetry, perhaps. like i was HAUNTED by an iphone.

which, now that i have it, was worth all the hauntings. :-)

but, hey, can't you whip that sucker up yourself?

  7. Somewhere along the line, I got rid of my dress form (dumb me). I'd need another one to "whip that sucker up":)

  8. I have always been haunted by dresses in my mind. Ones I think I want but can't find. Unlike you, I can't draw it but it is always beautiful in my mind. Good luck with your dress! I hope you get it and find somewhere fabulous to wear it. I think you should get someone to make it and wear it out on the town. It is such a classic style, you could wear it to many things for many years!!

  9. Oh my gosh - that dress is awesome. I too have a dress in my mind that I want, but could never even describe it or draw it.
AND - oh my gosh - I love the new Halloween look! I usually read you through my reader, so unless I pop over to comment I miss stuff like that. Looks great!

  10. The same thing happens to me all the time. Except I sew, so when I lay down, right before I fall asleep, that's when it happens. I get up the next morning and try to find a pattern similar, etc., and it never materializes! So frustrating.

  12. You should totally make it. You could make two then auction one off to a bloggy lady to cover costs.

  13. All the stinkin' time! Ever since I lost my job I'm haunted by all the things I can no longer afford to buy. It's like The Sixth Sense meets Mall of America.

  14. I was haunted by the purse I have been carrying for the past three years. Thats a record purse relationship for me... and good thing too because lets just say I dropped some major moolah on it. Hey, it was my present to myself for finishing my thesis. I deserved it dammit! And after that run, don't you deserve this dress???

  15. I'm always haunted. And then I'll say something like it was yelling at me but I was deaf!

  16. First of all, that dress is hot!! I would totally buy it if I saw it in the stores. Sounds like you need to team up with a seamstress and you could be the next Vera Wang!! (And then you could go back to buying whatever you wanted!)

I'm being haunted by shoes right now. I saw a fellow blogger post about finding a great pair of gold driving mocs from BR and I can not find them anywhere!!! :(

  17. I own that dress, in 'Christmas blue'. It is a velvety texture wintery style with slight embellishment of shiny little crystals(lightly done) that remind you of twinkling stars. No zipper, size 5. Fits like a glove and is the best little black dress (that isn't black) that I ever owned.

  18. Definitely haunted by pajamas. Like, I'd like to stay in them all day and sip tea and read a good book uninterrupted.
The dress looks fab. Hope Santa's elves (or some Halloween ghouls?) make you one soon!

  19. I love it. I also love brocades, but I have a passion for fabrics. In fact, I could make that dress for you. Yes, I could. I could even fit it for you. I wish you lived nearby. You could watch my kids while I made it for you one day. That would be a fun day for me. What a great dress. You make magic with websites. I make magic with fabric.

Shoot. Now this dress is going to haunt my dreams. Thanks so much . . . .

I'm a busy person. Please stop feeding my creativity, it hurts my brain.

  20. Now I read your comments. I guess I should have assumed that a woman with a degree in fashion design could make it for herself. You don't need a form if you are sewing for yourself. Just make it. Its awesome.

  21. I am LOVING thast dress. And YES I am ALWAYS haunted by clothes and other such purchases. Funny. Can I say how much I LOVE MAd Men? I thought I was the only one who watched it!! Glad I can count on my favorite tv buff to keep me company, Warden!

  22. That dress sounds gorgeous. I hope you find it!

I blogged about being haunted by an article of clothing a few weeks ago!

  23. I know that haunted feeling all too well, though, sadly, with my lack of impulse control I rarely get haunted. I am even more familiar with the feeling of buyer's remorse.

I got your email and am trying to get my Pal Pal account to come back to life as it is currently saying I have no accounts attached to it and that my bank account number, which has not changed in a zillion years, is invalid. I heart technology!

When I am able to do more than lay in bed with the laptop on my chest, I will get right on it, because I am DYING to see your ideas!

  24. Last night, I had a dream where Elmo explained the fundamentals of the economy to me... I would have much rather of been dreaming about a gorgeous dress like that!

I hope you find it some day!

  25. Yup, know this well. I LOVE that you've transcribed the image onto paper.

    That's a lovely dress. I'd but it.

  28. I'm still haunted by a cute little capri outfit I dreamed about two summers and two sizes ago. Hope you can find some closure!

  29. What a gorgeous dream dress. I concur with the other posters ... have that one made.

  30. Can you make it? And then you can apply to Project Runway. I love that show. I've never been haunted by fashion. I'm more of the tech gadget type.
