Buff and Brite

You know I bought my new Mac Book Pro (lil' Mac)...Well, I know that was a splurge. Truth be told, I sold some stock that had been sitting around for ten years. I kind of look at it as found money. So, very against my nature, I am thinking about doing something crazy. I want to do professional teeth whitening, and laser hair removal. Something that ordinarily, would never be in my budget (Husband doesn't have me on a budget, I am just very frugal). I have wanted to do both of these for years, but I am so conservative when it comes to spending. Seriously, Husband really lucked out with me. I think I can pull the trigger on the teeth whitening. I called my dentist, she does it and it's $500...That I can do. The hair removal, if I do the whole ball of wax (upper lip, under arms, lower leg, and bikini) I am looking at an easy $3,000! I just don't think I can pull the trigger on that, found money or not...Lay it on me peeps, have you done these? Am I crazy? Do you know how far $3,000 can take me? Maybe I should stick to Gillette...

  1. I'm very budget conscious myself, but I think that if a certain thing is important enough to you, you should indulge, but compensate in other ways

Every gal I know has their thing.

My sis is into Coach bags, but cuts her own hair. I, on the other hand, get my bags from TJ Maxx, but pay top dollar for my quarterly salon fix.

I got my teeth whitened for my wedding years back and loved having that great, confident smile for all the pics. I probably should look into laser hair removal, but we won't talk about that!!!

  2. I can think of better things to do with $3000, that's a lot of blog make-overs ;-)

Call me practical, but that would also buy a lifetime supply of bics.

I'm a tightwad too. Found money can be reinvested too. Debt free and interest bearing...that's where the real joy is!

  3. I would love the teeth whitening. I could not justify spending 3000 on hai removal either. Sometimes it is nice to splurge a little on yourself, it makes all the frugalness seem worth it.

  4. i did the teeth whitening for my wedding and i was not happy with it, didn't see a huge difference.

i am highly interested in the hair removal. i swear i don't understand how folks can wear a bikini? i constantly have a bikini line full of hair.

check out mrs. furious's blog, she just talked bout the hair removal !!!

  5. If I could afford it, I would do both. My chief thing that I want to get done though is a tummy tuck. No matter how much weight I seem to lose, this extra skin is driving me nuts. It really shows too. I bet that is way out of my budget though.

  6. I'm the same way....frugal. There is plenty I would love to splurge on and I always let my husband know this but when it actually comes to bringing my wallet out, I always find some excuse not to. The downside is that while I 'hope' that my husband might just splurge on me, he seems to want to make me happy by not spending our money. *sigh*

  7. Crest white strips work pretty well. :-) I've never had laser hair removal. If I were going to spend $3000 on something like that, I'd get a tummy tuck, lol.

  8. DUDE.... get veneers!!!

Your teeth will be white forever. I love mine. My husband is a dentist and he says that whitening really lasts only 12 months or so.

Email me and we can talk.

I puffy heart my veneers more then witty words can say!

  10. HAHA!! This reminds me of me! All I wanted for my 30th was to get a boob job. I've nursed four children, I feel I'm entitled, don't want them bigger, just back on the top shelf. Anyway, my hubby finally said yes and then I decided I couldn't spend all that money on that, what the heck was I thinking? We have young children that need clothes and food. Now I'll just wait til I'm 40!

  11. I wouldn't do hair removal just because I'm scared of the pain. I'm sticking to my razor for all of this. ;) If it was done in one time but nope, it's on 6 months I think.

Teeth whitening is fine by me.... :)

  12. I had my teeth whitened 8 years ago and they still look REALLY good. It was absolutely 100% worth the money (I should probably mention that part of convincing myself to spend the money involved giving up things that stain teeth like soda with caramel color). I did the trays with gel, so if I ever need to, I can always do a touch up.

On the other hand, I could never part with that kind of money for hair removal. I'm too cheap.

  13. I'm too cheap. I'd save it for bookcases.

  14. oh fun! Found money to pamper yourself with! Teeth whitening is awesome, but I have never done the hair removal thing. My girlfirend just did it on her bikini line and she said it is VERY painful! Good luck!

  17. OH don't go to the dentist to get your teeth whitened. Just get the at home white stripes! They do great! My uncle is a dentist and said that is it practically the same stuff. Just in smaller amounts. He even said that you don't have to do just 30 mins. Just sit down and watch a movie with the strips on. It will whiten your teeth and faster. Then you will have a bunch left over for touch ups. I have been using them for years! Love em!

  18. I'm not at all frugal & would kill to have money to do both, but as someone who has been seeing an electrologist for about 15 years, here are some things to think about with laser?

    1. what kind of laser will they use?
    2. do you have any hormone issues?
    3. do they make you pay by session or is it until it's gone?
    4. you realize you can't get lots of sun exposure while you are being treated, right?

Email me. Got lots of info on this one.

  19. I am the same way but have the same list with the addition of invisiline braces...ugh. If only I was rich and famous...

  20. I have issues spending money....so I will be NO help, but....whatever you decide, I hope you are thrilled with the results.

  21. I want the teeth whitening, but I need invisalign first :-) So much for those 'non existent' wisdom teeth :-)

I don't know, never having to EVER shave again. That is totally worth 3000 to me.

  22. Get the laser hair removal...justify it by remembering all the years spent on shaving and all the dang razors! You will LOVE it!

  23. My husband often comments that he is very lucky that I am not a shopper and don't spend money. He'll hear about someone's wife going and buying something and he'll say "I'm glad my wife isn't like that!"

  24. OK, speaking as someone who has had LHR, it was worth every penny and was not painful (not as painful as an ingrown hair from shaving . . . ). I urge you NOT to do electrolysis . . . painful and can leave scars.

You could pick your MUST NEED parts to laser and then get the bleaching done as well.

People who have blond, fine, or easy to remove hair, or skin that never irritates when shaved/plucked will never, ever understand the desire to get rid of it for GOOD!

My dentist offers a maintenance program--they do the Zoom and then you get trays and bleach to maintain if for as long as you want!

  25. Yes, the header white and the rest, underneath it, pink...would that be hard?
